An FIR has been registered at the Gomti Nagar Police Station in Lucknow against actors Alok Nath and Shreyas Talpade. They are accused of cheating 45 investors out of Rs 9 crore. The complaint also names members of a Credit Cooperative Society linked to the allegations.

This recent FIR follows another complaint filed in Haryana, where the actors were accused of cheating and breaching trust related to a cooperative society in Sonipat. According to reports from PTI, it is alleged that Alok Nath and Shreyas Talpade served as brand ambassadors for the cooperative society, which drew investors by leveraging their celebrity status.
The FIR, registered on January 22, falls under sections 316 (2), 318 (2), and 318 (4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. It addresses offences such as criminal breach of trust and cheating. The complaint was filed by Vipul Antil, a 37-year-old resident of Sonipat.
Allegations of Deceptive Practices
The complaint outlines that the cooperative society promised investors that their money would be secure. And that maturity amounts would be paid promptly, a claim it reportedly honoured for several years. Antil asserted that both actors actively promoted the Human Welfare Credit Cooperative Society Ltd as brand ambassadors.
Formed under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, the society began operations on September 16, 2016, in various states, including Haryana. Its primary functions included offering savings schemes such as fixed and recurring deposits. The society presented itself as a reliable financial institution and engaged in extensive marketing to attract investors. It utilized a multi-level marketing model to quickly expand its investor base.
However, the complaint alleges that in 2023. The disruptions in the payment of maturity amounts began to occur, with society officials attributing delays to “system upgradation.” This situation has raised significant concerns among the investors, leading to a formal complaint against the involved parties.
